The Bystander Effect

Just recently my friend called me on the phone and was very frantic. I then told her to calm down and tell me what happened. She finally gathered her thoughts and began to explain to me exactly what just occured. She was at Shell gas station and had just begun to pump her gas when out of nowhere her crazy ex-boyfriend appears. She did not know where he had come from and how long he had been there, but next thing she knows he is coming at her full force cursing and screaming at her. Saying how she is crazy for leaving him and that she needs to take him back and make things right. She tells him no and to get away from her and he did not like her response. He then grabs her and tries to throw her in his car. She now screaming at this point telling him to put her down and somebody please help. This is a bright sunny saturday and there are lots of people at the gas station watching this whole scene unfold and still nobody attempts to help her. They tussle for awhile and she some how gets free jumps in her car and drives off. This is prime example of the Bystander effect because there were all these people standing around watching this and nobody tried to see if she was ok or if she needed help of any sort. They just pumped their gas and was on their merry way. Now if she would have been kidnapped or brutally hurt those same people would have felt horrible to have witnessed the whole thing and did nothing to help.

Self-Regulatory Behavior

I believe that self regulatory behavior has affected me every since high school. I had no type of structured plan as far as studying and doing homework. I would just do it whenever or sometimes would not do either. I have had a huge issues with time management. I don't do anything before it is due. I wait until the last minute. It does not matter if the assignment was given to me a month ago I would still procrastinate and hold off on doing it. I honestly do not know the reason behind me doing it. I think that it has a lot to do with laziness. I am not a lazy person but when it comes down to school work I am a tad bit lazy. Though this exercise has in fact encouraged me to work on my time management. This is not just assignments but things on a daily basis on time or before they need to be done gives you a lot of free time. It also takes away a lot of stress. It would be much easier on me if I just did it ahead of time. So from now on I will try my best to work on my time management.

My Reading History

My experiences with reading has not always been that great. When I was in elementary I was not the best reader at all. So my forth grade teacher spoke to my mother about my reading ability and they both came to the conclusion that I should start getting tutored everyday after school until further notice. It did not take me very long to increase my reading level. All it took was hard work and a lot of focus for me to get my reading ability to where it should be. When I did head to junior high school I was an excellent, yet and still I did not grow to like reading out loud. Even as a high school student I jst did not like reading aloud. For some odd reason whenever it was time for me to read out loud in class I was always so very nervous and afraid to mess up and be picked on. I was lucky enough to not be forced to read very much out loud in high school and I was very thankful for that. i do like to read a good book not as an adult every now and then, but I still do not like reading out loud unless it is by choice.
